CO2 extraction is a clean extraction method where carbon dioxide gas (like the bubbles in sparkling water) is used as a solvent. The scent of CO2 extracts is the most refined of all and resembles that of the fresh plant! The oils are extracted at a low temperature. Due to the pressure, in addition to the fragrance, pigment and any resins are also extracted from the plant, which is why a CO2 extract can sometimes be thicker or even solid. In this case, gently and slowly warm the bottle in hot water or a bain-marie before use.
